About Us

Hi everyone!

My name is Jean-Claude Dubois and this is my wife Lise Hamelin. Together, we're decided that it was time to create our own dream of a lifetime project. We're from Gatineau, Quebec. Canada and when we saw, on the internet, a chance to own a small property bordering a lake, far away from the city life, we jumped on the occasion and rushed to go see it. We immediately fell in love with the place, even though the place was in shambles. My wife knew that I've always wanted to build my very own log home and she quickly agreed to the project. So we moved up there, in Moffet, Quebec, located about 1 and a half hour from the Ontario border, in the Temiscaming area and 8 hours away from Gatineau. We wondered though if we had enough strength, will and desire to accomplish this feat. I never liked the city, with it's busy intersections, traffic lights, emergency vehicles wailing sirens...etc.

You don't get to see the stars at night, the sweet sounds of nature, with the loonies bathing in the lake, and the birds making their nests in the trees nearby, safe from the constant traffic. You see and hear stuff you would never hear in the city. The air is much better, it's calm and very serene!! I've grown up in the country myself, where log buildings are very common and a way of life and I've visited friends and strangers that owned one. Log homes are majestic, massive, comfortable and secure... with their big fireplaces, log stairs and rooms. It's just natural living at it's best!!!

This has been more my idea than my wife, who loved the city life and it's conveniences, close to the Wal-Mart's, groceries and the local Sears department. She's sacrificed a lot to follow me in this adventure and I just love her for that...  and being a woman, it's pretty hard on her morale as she gets lonely quite a few times. So, she goes to the city a lot to see her mother, brothers and sister. It's been 7 years since we've moved here and slowly, she's falling in love with this place and appreciates the small rewards it brings. She used to go to the city 20 times a year when we first got here and now just only goes a few times a year. I even find excuses for her to go when I see that she's sad.... for her sacrifices, it's the least I could do!!! She's even helped me remove the bark off the trees. Her help and support are what makes me stronger and I strive off of that. She's even taken on a second job... since I can't, because of the lopsided hours I have on my own job, to help tackle the financial issues in making this project work!!! The sacrifices she makes and endures, just makes my own determination and challenge that much more worthwhile.... We'll be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary in 2008,  (after being together for the past 15 years ), and I want her to walk into the temporary building blocks and have a sense of what living in this house will be like. And what a great day it will be when it's finished... standing tall and mighty!!

We truly hope that this adventure will help you create your own projects and motivate you. It will be a lot of work, but with lots of effort, patience and lots of devotion and love, it will make this project that much more special and meaningful!!!!"
